French is full of expressions inspired by food.

Do you know this one about butter (‘le beurre’)?

If you want ‘le beurre et l’argent du beurre’ (‘butter and money of the butter’), it means that you want the object and its value, refusing to loose one part to gain another one, denying the consequence of an action.

One can even add ‘…et le sourire de la fermière’ (‘…and the farmer’s smile’). Some ‘naughty persons’ might even replace the smile by some other part of the body…

So now, you should easily understand this sentence

‘Il fait la fête tous les soirs et il a l’intention de partir en vacances cet été. Il veut le beurre et l’argent du beurre… et le sourire de la fermière, en plus !’

But do you know this other expression

‘Compter pour du beurre’ (litterally, ‘to count for butter’) ?
